There are around a billion registered website on the internet, and to sort through them we all, mostly rely on search engines and the search engine these days have evolved to such a great extent that almost 91% of us depend on the search engine to find things.
Now there are lots of great search engines out there (like Google, Bing, AOL etc.), but around 83% of all the people out there using internet uses Google. This is what I will use to explain this concept but the concept explained here apply to all the search engines out there. When we search something on Google it shows lots of results (which can be seen as google shows the total no. of results generated by it )And among these results, only a few results are shown on the first page and rest can be accessed by going to other pages but according to a study, 94% of the people who use google only clicks on the results that appear on the first page of the google and if they don’t find what they are looking for, they usually don’t bother looking on the other page, instead, they tend to readjust their search terms and search again and of those people who do click on the first page most people click into which is sometimes referred to as golden triangle or top three or so results, in fact about 63% of the people just click right in there.
This is why optimizing our website to search engines or doing SEO is so important. When people search for something and they see our website as search results they click on the links and these visitors are not any visitors, these are the visitors who are really interested in being our customer or subscriber or anything based on the websites as they are the one looking for what we exactly have to offer, in shorts they are the ideal visitors but if our website isn’t showing in the golden triangle reason or not even on the first page of the search results, it's almost like that we don’t even exist, no one can even find it.
Now with respect to above information if we searched for “bca Delhi” and we were presented with 23,10,000 results. So why some websites appear at the top of the results and some are stuck at the bottom, for this, we need to understand how search engines works. Earlier, google search engines used to look at the Keywords, for example if we searched for “bca Delhi”, they would look for websites and the websites having the search term maximum number of times will be displayed first, but the founder of google found that the website having the search term maximum number of times may not be having that relevance but if the website is backlinked by other websites, this might mean that the website has higher relevance to the searcher.
Using the same page ranking algorithm they formed google and now almost all search engines follow the same formula. So based on the algorithm the website having the highest backlink is showed at the top. So let's think of this in this way, keyword help google understand our website, i.e. what is the website all about and the no. and quality of backlinks helps google understand the relevance of the website. Based in all this, websites can be optimized to get a higher rank on the search results of the search engines as these are the only two aspects on which search engine find and rank websites, there also are two aspects of SEO too i.e. ONSITE and OFFSITE aspects.
ONSITE: In this we need to ensure that our website is full of keywords that are relevant to our website.
For example, if the website is about college in Rohini, this means that website should contain search terms like- colleges, Delhi, Rohini, sector, college name, streams etc.
OFFSITE: In this we work to generate backlinks from websites that originate from other sources. Links to the website can be created using articles, social media, blog spots, discussion boards and so on. One point should always be kept in mind that, more the legitimate and genuine the backlinks from the website more is the ranking our website. So, this is it, Search engine optimization is very important as almost everybody relies upon heavily on search engines to find anything on the Internet, SEO is the most important way to increase traffic on our website.
