We are all addicted to different things. Some alcohol, some drugs, some love and some social media. Tell me can u imagine your life now without updating status on Facebook, or watching  movies and songs on YouTube, posting your photos on Insta or talking to your friends on the WhatsApp?
Today finding someone who does not have a Yahoo or Gmail account is nearly impossible. Surprisingly now it’s not only teenagers that are addicted to the sites but parents and grandparents too!!
As we all know social networking is very useful these days. It has become a very massive part of our lives now.
Through social media, communication has become easier. It was tough to connect to people decades ago. To communicate people had to use telegrams, mails and letters which took days to reach the recipient. But now with the help of social media, the recipient is just one click away! That is just typed the message; hit the send button and BOOM! MESSAGE DELIVERED! The message is received by the intended recipient in seconds and with minimum or no costs.
Also through social media now people can learn anything they want. For e.g. if someone wants to learn cooking, knitting or watch scientific experiments, they can just search on YouTube or Dailymotion and   learn anything through tutorials available in a just matter of minutes. Through several forums, teenagers can contribute their ideas and opinions and express themselves freely on certain subjects like politics, entertainment, etc.
It not only helps in communicating with people and learning but also unleashes potential and hidden talents of teenagers. The sensational celebrities like Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes and many more were discovered through YouTube. They wouldn’t be anywhere if it wasn’t for YouTube. Many young artists, singers and dancers are emerging through social networking sites.
Teenagers have created support groups through blogs and YouTube where they share some of their life experiences and communicate with teenagers and help them get through stressed situations. Some people, who are socially awkward, suffer from social anxiety. These people find comfort in these sites.  Some of the people doing these works are Dan Howell, Phil Lester, Zoella Sugg, Connor Franta etc.
Social networking sites are very useful for business promotion. People can set up business pages on twitter, facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, MySpace and many other social networking sites to promote their business. People can interact for business purposes through the networking sites. It helps to create business awareness. It plays the main role in globalization. Social media is not only used in business but schools too.
Nowadays children can study sitting at home through many sites available online like meditation and many more. Also online college courses are available on the internet for college students.
Political leaders use social networking sites to promote their campaigns. Twitter and facebook help politicians to reach its potential voters faster and vice versa.
Social media is a great source of entertainment too.

But since we know every coin has two sides and the balance of good and evil needs to be maintained. Also, everything is not always as good as it seems in the world. This implies that there are negative impacts of social networking.
Since we know everything is available on the internet, just search on Google or yahoo and you will find MILLIONS OF RESULTS just in seconds! Student nowadays has started to rely on the web for information required for their projects and homework which have lead to a reduction in student’s potentiality to find something on his own. Also because of these sites students mind are diverted from the studies.
Cyber bullying which refers to a type of bullying on the social networking sites is spreading too. Bullies have gone to internet sites such as twitter, facebook, Instagram. They post dirty remarks on someone’s profile which ruin that person’s life and career completely or embarrass them which sometimes lead to death or suicide.
Another case of the negative impact of social media is Teenagers disclose their personal information as they completely ignore the website’s privacy policies in a hurry to create an account which leads to identity theft, cyber stalking and threats.
The recent studies have shown that number of spam messages sent to the social sites has increased. Spam messages are flooding the internet with many copies of the same message sent to users. Most of the spam come from social advertisements. It cost the sender very little to send but costs the recipients or carriers for receiving the message. Although popular service providers like Gmail have provided spam folders but there are many emails which come directly into the inboxes asking for sensitive data. And these emails are sent by hackers to track IP addresses with ulterior motives.
Last but not the least we all know that it causes health problems. Just sitting in front of a computer for 2 hours can increase the chances of getting diabetes and heart diseases. It can make you fat and paranoid. It also causes strain on your eyes. Also, it can lead to depression.

Now, in the end, we know some of the pros and cons of the impact of social media. Now it depends on us and on how we choose to use it, be it for educational purposes or to find another reason to procrastinate from our responsibilities. At the end of the day, the choice is in our hands choose wisely.
